Tagging Smolts Enables Scientists to Monitor their Behaviour
Part of our ongoing conservation work at the Six Rivers Project includes the tagging of smolts (maturing salmon) in order to discover where they go after they leave our waters. Note: You can find out more about the life cycle of the Atlantic salmon here.
This data will assist the scientific and academic teams to try to build statistical data on survival rates and travel patterns which will help guide our conservation work.
Last year we tagged around 1,000 smolts, something we intend to do annually going forward.
