The Sunnudalsá River

THE SUNNUDALSÁ RIVER

Undiscovered Salmon River

The Sunnudalsá is a tributary of the Hofsá river and forms part of the same basin. Its 23km of gin clear waters are sourced from the nearby high mountains, making it the coldest river in the region. Its two beats offer a very challenging and rewarding salmon fishing experience. A new fish ladder was constructed in 2005, which helped to increase the fishing stocks in this river. At its mouth are some of the best Arctic char pools in North East Iceland.

Fishing Rules

  • 100% Catch and Release, except for one Grilse per rod per day.
  • Maximum catch of five fish per rod per session or ten fish per rod per day.
  • No large weighted flies or sinking lines. Very small coneheads are allowed.
  • Floating lines only.
